IPL 5: Injured Malinga out for two weeks

IPL 5: Injured Malinga out for two weeks

Mumbai: Suffering from back spasm, Mumbai Indians’ pacer Lasith Malinga may be ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for up to two weeks.
Sources told Cricketnext.com that the fast bowler has returned to Sri Lanka on the morning of Mumbai’s home game against Delhi Daredevils on April 16. The last match that Malinga played was against Rajasthan Royals on April 14.

The Sri Lankan’s absence will be a big jolt for Mumbai, who have made an up-and-down start to IPL season five, winning three of their five matches so far. They are sixth in the points table and will face Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Malinga has been the leading wicket-taker in the IPL with 70 wickets and has also started season five on a positive note, taking nine wickets in four games. This is not the first time that Malinga is troubled by injuries. A knee injury in 2007 had almost put paid to his career and the bowler finally decided to call it quits from Tests in 2011.
