Ravindra Jadeja, who bagged five-wicket haul and made quick-fire 48 runs, faltered this time as he managed to score 13 runs and left Chennai tottering 66/5 in 10.2 overs.
Delhi's brilliant field work sent Chennai's three batsmen went back to the pavilion as Suresh Raina and Subramaniam Badrinath both got run-out after Murali Vijay. Chennai got off to a poor start as they lost Murali Vijay and Faf du Plessis in the first four overs.
Vijay, who went back to the pavilion without facing a delivery, got run-out on a mix up on the first delivery of the innings.
Du Plessis and Suresh Raina tried to recuperate Chennai innings from the early jolt after adding quick-fire 26 runs. But the pair could not continue their stand when Morne Morkel struck in his over to remove du Plessis and gave Chennai their second blow. Du Plessis contributed 15 runs off 12 balls that included three boundaries.
Earlier, Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag won the toss and decided to bowl against Chennai in the 11th of the tournament which has been delayed by half an hour due to consistent showers.
The arrival of Kevin Pietersen and Mahela Jayawardene dominated Team Delhi's batting as they both were given the chance to play their first match of this IPL. Chennai have retained the same team.
The Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Daredevils have had contrasting performances in their previous match. While Chennai brushed off their rustiness to thrash Deccan Chargers in style, the Daredevils faltered against an inspired Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Delhi's two matches so far have swung opposite ends of the spectrum: a victory in a truncated game against Kolkata -- through an inspired show with the bat from Irfan Pathan -- being followed by an insipid show from the team's desi brigade as they went down to Bangalore. Sehwag fell for a duck, Irfan leaked 47.
Chennai arrive in Delhi on the back of a defeat to Mumbai and a massive 74-run win against Hyderabad. It's apparent that living up to their 'IPL Invincibles' tag will take some doing this season. With Ravindra Jadeja complementing the heavy-hitters, Chennai's best bet is to pile up a huge total to ease into form.
